I’ve created painting machines designed specifically for firework color smoke canisters.  The machines are constructed out of mixed media and found materials employing a bricolage approach. They are fitted with caster wheels and are comprised of multiple connected containers.  The color smoke canisters fit snuggly into the multiple necks of the containers and are chain fused together. When lit, they release their smoke at different intervals increasing the pressure within the containers. As the pressure increases, the discharged smoke shoots out of the many holes on the bottom of the containers with great force.  While this process is unfolding, I use a long pole to twirl, spin and glide the machines across the paper. They are designed to hover very close to the surface of the paper and leave long trails of color marks as they move.
